Becoming a Member
Why membership?Although the words member and membership are both found in the New Testament, they are not directly applied to the local church, only the universal church. However, the word fellowship is used of the local church, and expresses the same idea as membership. We believe that God joins people to local churches, and it is important for individuals to express their belief that they are joined to a particular church fellowship, and for the leaders of that church to accept responsibility for that individual. How?We have a membership course of 5 weeks, where individuals and couples work through our vision and values with a member of the church. They are given opportunity to thoroughly examine our beliefs, values, vision, and to ask any questions! At the end of this course the individual or couple has a meeting with two of the leaders to discuss their desire to be members. Joined to what?As leaders we are looking to see if God has joined a person or couple to the church. We look to see if the individual has built genuine relationships with other people in the church, to see if they wholehearted agree with the church vision and want to use their gifts to further build the church, and if they are happy to follow the leaders of the church. |
